Special Needs Life Coaching

Life Coaching  with Endeavour
“Those who have a 'why' to live, can bear with almost any 'how'.” Viktor E. Frankl

What is special needs life coaching?
As a Special Needs Life Coach, I work with families and individuals to ensure that they, and their children or young adults with special needs, have access to the support, encouragement, resources and knowledge to lead happy fulfilling lives. Coaches work with families and individuals to determine what they need to meet personal goals, and they establish and monitor action plans to help them reach these goals. They are an extension of the family devoted to improving quality of life.
Why are special needs life coaches needed?
  •  There are over 11 million people in the UK with a limiting long-term illness, impairment or disability. There are 800,000 disabled children under the age of 16 - that equates to one child in every 20.
  •  99.1 per cent of disabled children live at home and are supported by their families.
  •  The most commonly-reported impairments are those that affect mobility, lifting or carrying. There are approximately 1,800 children diagnosed with cerebral palsy every year and an estimated 30,000 children with cerebral palsy registered in the UK (www.scope.org.uk/media/disability-facts-figures).
  • Other reported impairments are social and behavioural (33%), learning disability (31%) and stamina, breathing and fatigue (31%).

Recent articles form the World Health Organisation and medical journals such as the International Journal of Therapy and Rehabilitation, all conclude that a substantive benefit and overall improvement in welfare is the result for parents and caregivers who receive coaching when looking after special needs children.

Whether it is cerebral palsy, autism, Down's syndrome or any another developmental or physical disability, the lives of these families will be changed forever. Parents of children with disabilities have a greater incidence of divorce and their financial situation changes dramatically, due to both the cost of caring for their child and the fact that one parent will give up his or her career to serve as a caregiver. The relationship that parents have with their other children, and with their relatives and friends, becomes strained as the focus is shifted to the child who has the developmental/physical disability.

Working together towards a better life for all

Parents commit their lives to their children with disabilities and in the process, they often lose themselves. A Special Needs Life Coach can work with these individuals and their families to create a better life for all. As a growing and critically needed profession while helping others— it will change your life, and the lives of those with special needs including cerebral palsy, movement and developmental disabilities.

About the service

Neresia works with families of children with a variety of special needs, specialising in children with cerebral palsy and disorders related to movement, including speech and visual impairment. She uses the Open-Heart Bio-Psycho-Social approach by Deborah Beasley, to meet the challenging needs of children through this holistic, developmentally integrated, and highly successful relational model.

Neresia teaches parents, care givers and family members to recognise the talents and abilities of children as well as their limitations, and guides them through their most challenging circumstances, to work within those abilities to further children's and families' ability to form and maintain healthy relationships, body mind regulation, and future success.

In addition to her ACPI Special Needs Life Coaching Certification, Neresia holds certification in several areas related to her work with families and children: Portage therapy, Yoga for the special child, ABR training, TAMBA Twins listening service, CPCAB Levels 1 to 3, Counselling and Psychology BSc degree.

In conjunction with her experience as a mother she has held the position of chair for a local authority LA special needs group consulting with parents and liaising with senior staff on policies and procedures. As an affiliate member of (BABICM) Brain Injury Case Manager she has incorporated her knowledge and years of experience into her work with her own family and with other families and professionals in the fields of child birth and brain injury, mental health and behavioural science. Neresia works effectively within all family dynamics, race, gender and culture.

Why work with a special needs life coach?

With my support as a special needs life coach and a mother of a child with disabilities, families and carers will know they are not alone in their endeavours. Raising a child with a disability can place a significant strain on the mental well-being of parents and carers. I understand the barriers to well-being, including lack of support, being unable to ask for help, being isolated from the community, and having insufficient time or income to spend on oneself. Parental mental health is key to the quality of life of the child and family. I am skilled at listening, I have a wealth of knowledge and experiences, which I integrate in my work, carefully asking helpful and thought-provoking questions to motivate families to live their best lives.

I can coach you through a variety of circumstances which includes:
• Navigating local authority
• Support through legal cases
• Support through hospital admissions
• Therapy intervention and applications
• Coming to terms with diagnoses and disabilities
• The dynamics between family, children, friends, strangers
• Working with professionals and organisations
• See yourself more clearly, becoming aware of blind spots
• Identify self-limiting beliefs and unhelpful thinking styles
• Notice ineffective and/or self-sabotaging behaviours
• Coming to terms with changes
• Coping with daily life
  Birth Trauma

Armed with more self-awareness, self-belief and strategies, you will be in a much better position to start making positive changes that make a real difference to your life.
